Course Preparation

The Classical Pilates Training Company recommends each candidate take an assessment with a member of the team led by Kirk prior to booking in on our certification process. This ensures you experience our approach to teaching first-hand. On the basis of the assessment, Kirk will recommend you take the pre-training course, or that you bypass the pre-training. Most candidates who have a qualification may be able to bypass the pre-training course and on go straight on to the first weekend. We still recommend anyone considering enrolling in our certification programme take this assessment.

Classical Pilates Teacher Training Courses by Kirk SmithIf you take the pre-training weekend, you will be given an action plan to prepare you for your first comprehensive weekend. It will involve doing the work, and perhaps some remedial pre-Pilates. The purpose of the pre-training is to help you succeed.

If we recommend you take the pre-training weekend and you choose to skip the pre-training weekend and enrol directly in the comprehensive program, you will not be eligible for a refund. The assessment will include assessment of your ability to execute most intermediate level exercises safely and competently.  The assessment helps us get to know your needs and determine your readiness for the demands of the programme.  This process is a long-standing classical approach to accessing courses.

Candidates may be asked to perform any of the following intermediate exercises on the mat and the reformer.

Mat Exercises

The Hundred, Roll Up, Single Leg Stretch, Double Leg Stretch, Single Straight Leg Stretch, Double Straight Leg Stretch, Criss Cross, Spine Stretch Forward, Open Leg Rocker, Corkscrew, Saw, Single Leg Kick, Double Leg Kick, Neck Pull, Side Kicks, Teaser, Seal, Push Up.

Reformer Exercises

Footwork, Hundred, Short Spine Massage, Coordination, Long Box: Pulling Straps I and II, Backstroke Swimming, Teaser. Short Box: Round Back, Straight Back, Side to Side, Twist and Reach, Tree. Long Stretch Series:  Long Stretch, Down Stretch, Up Stretch, Elephant, Long Back Stretch. Stomach Massage Series: Round, Hands Back, Reaching, Twist. Leg Circles, Frog, Kneeling Knee Stretches, Running, Pelvic Lift, Side Splits, Front Splits.

However, if you are confident that you do not need the initial 1:1 assessment session and you are already a certified instructor, then you are not required to attend the pre-training course and you may book on for the course below.
